Mary Anne Tillona
Tillona Law was founded by Mary Anne Tillona in 2006. Prior to the firm’s formation, Ms. Tillona served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Vertafore, Inc., a software technology firm serving the insurance industry. Ms. Tillona served as an active member of the executive management team with responsibility for all legal affairs of the company and its affiliates. Prior to that, Mary Anne held other in-house legal officer positions and also worked as an associate for a leading law firm in Connecticut. Mary Anne works with businesses and charitable organizations to meet their business needs in a service-oriented, pragmatic manner.
Experience
Mary Anne has had extensive in-house corporate legal experience both for domestic firms and those with an international presence, as well as experience in private practice serving business clients. She has negotiated many types of corporate transactions, including service arrangements for both providers and customers of software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings, technology licenses, real estate lease transactions and mergers and acquisitions. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and brings a practical, business-oriented approach to the practice of corporate law.
Mary Anne regularly represents clients in connection with all types of corporate legal work, with an emphasis on drafting and negotiation of numerous types of commercial agreements, such as:
- Patent and other technology license agreements;
- SaaS service agreements;
- Marketing and referral arrangements;
- Development arrangements;
- Real estate leases;
- Grant and financing agreements;
- Consulting agreements;
- Employment-related agreements.
Mary Anne also provides guidance in the areas of employment law and risk mitigation, and serves as a legal adviser in structuring new business models for clients (including providing and negotiating the operative agreements to support the new activity).

Mary Anne is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Corporate Counsel Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society and the Connecticut Technology Council. She is also a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mary Anne is also a member of the League of American Bicyclists, a not-for-profit organization promoting bicycling safety and better facilities, infrastructure and education for cyclists.
Education
Mary Anne received a JD from Western New England College School of Law (cum laude) in 1987.
Mary Anne also holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Connecticut (1980).
